The Strongsville Rotary Board of Directors last week voted to cancel the club’s annual Run4Fun fundraiser for this year. President Manjit Khuban noted that the event this year netted $7,000, but $8,000 was directly contributed by club members. The board agreed that the Fun Run didn’t seem to garner support of club members.
The event this year raised a total of $15,266 in sponsorships and runner fees, with $5,300 in expenses, for revenues of $9,937. From the proceeds, a $3,000 donation was made to John Owens Adventure, a charity dedicated to finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal progressive disorder that causes loss of muscle function and independence in children.
“My stance is that we need to find an alternative event that is unique,” Manjit said.
Board member Bartley James suggested a duck race, in which participants buy plastic ducks that are dumped in the river and race to the finish. The event could take place in the Metroparks.
Board members emphasized that Nick Gerogosian did an outstanding job of organizing the event.
