Getting started. Nelson Eubanks led the August 6 meeting off with the Invocation and President-Elect Bruce Keenan led up in the Pledge of Allegiance. Bruce mysteriously presided over the meeting while President Jerry Balint ate his eggs.

Guests. Included Robin Kammer, daughter of Rob, and Kevin Vazquez, a Strongsville High School freshman who is interested in being an outgoing exchange student.
Rotarians of the Month. John and Sandy Croft were named Rotarians of the Month for their work in organizing the annual senior picnic at the end of July. You can view photos of the senior picnic, taken by Jay Dzurilla, at the club's Facebook page.

Paparazzi. Thank you to John Turnbull, who has agreed to be our photographer for the Friday meetings. He got stuck with that job after taking great shots at the Run 4 Fun. Jay Dzurilla also can be counted on to take great shots at many of our club events, like the senior picnic. Look for those shots to be posted soon.

Savor the Flavor. Bart James said the Taste of Strongsville fundraiser has 14 restaurants signed up so far. The event will be held Sunday, October 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Strongsville.

Run 4 Fun. If you are interested in joining the committee to organize the 2011 Fun Run, join Ann Marie LaPorta for a one-hour meeting at J. Bella's on Monday, August 16, at 6:00 p.m.

School supplies
. Margaret Skaer is heading up the annual school supplies drive. Bring you donations of school supplies or cash to next week's meeting. The drive runs through August 20.

Self defense
. Brenda Jumpa said the club will host a "Don't be a Victim" event for women in October at the Rec Center. The class will feature an FBI agent and is open to women and teenage girls. Men might choose not to attend club meetings in November.

Chili Open. Jerry announced that B'laster will once again be the title sponsor for the 2011 Chili Open Golf Classic. The Cleveland Indians will once again donate a dugout loge for auction off at the 2011 event, Brenda announced. The Chili Open web site has been down due to technical problems on the server. It is expected to be back up in time for the event.

Blue badge. Laurie Berendsen issued a Blue Badge to Mike Rezac.

Welcome, amiga. Our exchange student is soon to arrive from Mexico. Val Tocci said welcome gifts will be collected at next Friday's meeting, or they can be delivered to Lena Knight at the Mid-Point campus on Pearl Road, just south of Boston Road, in Brunswick.

Rotary convention. Past-president Jack Miaskowski told the club about his trip to the Rotary International convention in Montreal. Jack attended the convention with Past-president Ron Mowry and their brides. Despite being stuck in a rainstorm and in an elevator, Jack said the experience was awesome and suggested that all Rotarians attend at least one international convention. Next year's event in New Orleans, May 21-25, would be a good choice.

Queen. The table ticket was worth $213 and the Queen was worth $2,590. Brian Kiplinger drew a loser and the Queen lives.

Quotable.

Words of Wisdom

For the first time in many years, an old man traveled from his rural town to the city to attend a movie. After buying his ticket, he stopped at the concession stand to purchase some popcorn.

Handing the attendant $4.50, he couldn't help but comment, "The last time I came to the movies, popcorn was only 15 cents."

"Well, sir," the attendant replied, "You're really going to enjoy yourself. We have sound now."
