Cleveland Clinic - The Happiest Place on Earth (to Receive HealthCare) - and How You Can Do it Too

Paul Kuzmickas - The Enterprise Director for Quality, Safety, and Patient Experience spoke about the Ombudsman Office, its role, and ideas that can be implemented in any business.

The Ombudsman Office acts as a patient liaison rather than a patient advocate.  They take feedback from patients to help improve the quality of care they provide, and also take feedback from care-givers and set and enforce rules for patient conduct.

Communication is the biggest key.  Even though the Cleveland Clinic aims for perfection, there are going to be problems, and the key is how you deal with the problem.

The Cleveland Clinic uses HEART as a mnemonic for how to communicate: Hear, Empathize, Apologize, Respond, Thank.
