Mayor Perciak visited our club to give an update on the city.

  1. Economic Development: The mayor outlined ongoing initiatives to enhance Strongsville’s business sector, including growth in the city’s business park, which currently has over 8 million square feet, 97% of which is occupied. New leases and expansions, such as Momentive Technologies and Kraft Mobile Systems, support revenue and job creation. A 40,000 square-foot expansion by Momentive is underway, emphasizing the city’s attractiveness to executives and skilled workers.

  1. Community Support and Tributes: The mayor paid tribute to the late Mike Kalinich, a well-known local figure, and expressed gratitude for the community’s support for various projects. Local families, businesses, and organizations contributed financially to develop Strongsville’s Town Center, raising over $6 million in grants and donations. The mayor highlighted that such contributions reflect strong community pride.

  2. Mall Development: Efforts to revitalize Strongsville Mall are in progress, with recent zoning code adjustments allowing more flexible uses like hotels and entertainment spaces. Dick's Sporting Goods is opening a new "House of Sports" concept at the mall, featuring interactive sports areas. This change is part of the broader transformation to make the mall an experiential destination rather than a solely retail-focused space.

  3. City Infrastructure and Projects: Projects include the planned extension of Foltz Parkway and the new fire station on Route 82, chosen for its strategic location at one of the county's busiest intersections. The fire station aims to reduce response times for EMS calls, benefiting both residential and commercial properties with improved emergency services.

  4. Strongsville Brand and Community Engagement: The city aims to strengthen its brand identity, showcased by updates to city signage and the cohesive design of the new Town Center. The mayor emphasized the need to maintain relationships with state and federal representatives to ensure the city receives its share of funding for infrastructure projects.

  5. Future Challenges and Planning: Maintaining revenue streams and managing economic headwinds are identified as key challenges. City leaders closely monitor economic indicators, such as sales tax and unemployment rates, to stay financially prepared.
